Founded in 2003, Smartbox is the leading European gift experience business. We have sales of €500M, a presence in 11 markets, 6 brands and a strong track record of profitability. The company is currently carrying out a comprehensive business transformation programme that will drive our online business growth. We have centralised our online business & technology in Dublin, and are undertaking a large-scale investment to put in place a best-in-class web and mobile platform to better serve and grow our multi-million person customer base.
As part of this transformation, we are accelerating our online sales through expanding our online products range and differentiating our online offering from our established retail range.
Managing a team of 50, the Head of Trading will achieve success in the role by delivering transformational growth using 3 key levers, online product range, product merchandising and product content. We already have a number of initiatives underway and this role will take commercial ownership of driving these initiatives.
•Leading and developing a team of 50 commercially driven colleagues
•Utilising a data led approach coupled with knowledge of best practices, understand and then optimise the drivers of online sales. We are looking for somebody who can tell us what we don’t already know!
•Taking a commercial approach to the identification and prioritisation of new product opportunities to optimise online revenue growth
•Foster an environment of continuous improvement to ensure the customer experience is best in class
•Acting a conduit between colleagues in Technology, Customer Support, Marketing, Product Management to ensure decisions are aligned across the business
•Comfortable with analysing data across multi geo/product to understand and then drive appropriate actions
•Ensure best in class content for all Smartbox products & experiences, through optimising for revenue growth including but not limited to Merchandising, Landing Pages, Imagery, Content, Pricing, Categorisation, Promotions, Newsletter and Availability
•Maintain competitor benchmarking to understand and react to market trends
Essential Criteria/Key Skills
•Considerable people management experience within an eCommerce/ high-growth operation or start-up
•Knowledge/experience of the leisure/gifting industry
•Strong commercial acumen and a superior understanding of the Internet and of “online business” (traffic, sales, customer journey, lead generation, newsletters, CRM, site optimization …)
•Strong background in optimising content to drive revenue growth
•Exceptional communication and organization skills. You are a clear and concise communicator with the ability to synthesize a lot of information quickly, highlight the key takeaways, and disseminate actionable insights
•Ability to balance attention to detail with swift execution. We need to do things quickly, and we need to do them well
•Drive for results. Biased toward action, great collaborator and master simplifier – constantly pushing toward clarity and delivery
•Grit. You never hesitate to roll up your sleeves and tackle something hands-on; You are also comfortable presenting at Exec or Board level if needed
•Ability to lead with passion and enthusiasm. You can drive the behaviours and activities of those who work for you and those who don’t
•Fluent spoken and written English, secondary language is a plus
•Relevant undergraduate degree from a leading university
•Based at our international HQ in Dublin, you may be required to travel to local offices throughout Europe from time to time ( when safe to travel)
